Speaking Out Reaching Every Adolescent Life

“We at West Greene High School appreciate you sharing with our entire student body about your experiences in an abusive dating relationship. As you probably know, we recently experienced the worst nightmare I personally have had to endure in my 32 years of teaching experience. One of our senior girls was held hostage by her former boyfriend, shot and murdered. That situation literally shook our staff and student body to the core! What you said to our students during the program you presented has been beneficial to our healing as a school. Every student body should hear what you have to tell them before it is too late. Hopefully, you helped another of our female students who might be on the path of becoming involved with the wrong person as Katie had before her murder. I am not a big advocate of assembly programs, but I recommend this program to any middle or high school, regardless of size or socio-ecomomic status"

"I have seen that love hurts video since 8th grade and been bored out of my mind every time. With the presentation today I got it. It was straight talk and straight to the point. She kept my attention and I can actually tell you what she said."

"In her two days spent at Theodore Roosevelt Elementary Lori's anti-violence, anti-bullying message reached a total of 250 children. The children were mesmerized by her stories and extremely receptive to what she had to say. The students were talking about it for weeks afterward and made a concerted effort to meet her no-teasing, be kind to each other challenge. In fact the self proclaimed school bully has shown a positive change as a result of the program and her interaction with Lori."

“Thank you for talking to us and trying to get us to be best friends and not be mean. To tell you the truth I think it might be working.”

"For a number of years we have had several guests to visit and present programs for our students, but I know of none that has done a better job than the presentation you had for our students. When I asked them questions about the message, they gave me answers that showed you had groomed your presentation to the grade you were seeing at the time.  Your topic of anti-bullying was one that several students would not have gotten if it were not for your time and effort.  After hearing you, there seemed to be a boost of enthusiasm and morale building that extended throughout the entire year."

“I had no idea what abuse was. I always just thought of being beat up as abuse but after Lori talked with us I realize that there are several different ways to be abused or to abuse someone else. I know I could recognize the signs now and get myself out of a situation like that.”

"Wow! What an amazing, eye-opening program. Teenage relationship abuse is not openly discussed in many areas and definitely needs to be here. Your program opened many eyes and changed some lives this week. The number of hands that went up in the room when you asked if anyone had ever been victim or knew someone who had been was astonishing. Thank you for taking time to educate our youth about the warning signs of abuse. Your tactics are very effective, I will definitely be in touch soon for another presentation."
